![]() He was an organist for more than 60 years, a lay reader, and a devoted member of the church choir. Gerald did not only dedicate his life to his family and career, but he also had an active leadership presence in the Anglican Church. They were then further fulfilled with the birth of three grandchildren, Brie, Reid, and Mason who they absolutely adored. Their lives were enriched raising Paul and Nadine who were clearly their Pride and Joy. He married Melida Dunford of Francois Newfoundland in 1965 and was blessed with 56 years of marriage and three beautiful children, Paula (died in infancy), Paul and Nadine. Gerald was a very hard-working individual who was extremely committed to his career. Following a brief period working in the construction industry, he started his formal career as an Accountant at the Marystown Shipyard in 1967 and remained there until he retired. While attending university he worked as a student at Fishery Products in Burin and as a Catechest in Leading Tickles. He then furthered his education by attending Memorial University where he studied Theology. Upon completion of High school, he spent two years teaching in the communities of Burin and Isle aux Morts. He later moved to Cape La Hune and eventually to Creston South in 1948 where he completed High School at St. Gerald was born in Burgeo, Newfoundland on July 11, 1940, to James and Susanna Barter. ![]() Gerald was predeceased by his baby girl, Paula Barter parents, James & Susanna Barter sister, Cynthia McNeil parents-in-law, James & Gladys Durnford and brothers-in-law, Calvin and Samuel Durnford. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife Melida of 56 years son, Paul Barter (Michelle) of Port Aux Basques daughter, Nadine Barter of Paradise 3 beautiful grandchildren, Brie Cousins, Reid Cousins and Mason Barter brothers, Clyde Barter (Elizabeth) of Creston South, Roy Barter (Ann) of Creston South, Roland Barter (Ruth) of Winterland, and Alvin Barter (Sharon Sinnott) of Port Kirwan brother-in-law, David McNeil of Creston South plus a large circle of family and friends.
